| Obituary:
Russell B. Drew of Chappaqua passed away at home on February 26, 2009. He was 80 years old. One of eight children from Joliet, Illinois, he was predeceased by his parents, Vera and Ross, sisters Betty and Dorothy, and brothers Richard and Earl. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ginny, his son Greg, daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Scott Blakely, grandchildren Katie and Brian Blakely, sister Jessie and brothers David and Merle. A World War II veteran, he proudly served in the Japanese theater. He was a long time, passionate employee of IBM, where among other accomplishments, he was part of the team that developed and marketed IBM’s first system, the 360 project. He retired from Data Switch of Shelton, Connecticut , where he helped negotiate a long term, lucrative deal with the NSA. A member of Mount Kisco Country Club since 1962, he was granted a “honorary Membership” in recognition for his contributions to both the golf course (he was a long time “Greens Chairman”), and the Senior Golf program, which he helped to organize and dearly loved. An avid reader and sports lover, both as participant and spectator, he will be missed by his family, friends and MKCC family.
A memorial service will be held on Friday March 6, 2009 at the Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco, 605 Millwood Road, Route 133, Mount Kisco , New York at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps and / or Hospice Care in Westchester and Putnam. |
