| Obituary:
Leonard Maynard was born at an early age on December 16th, 1921 in the Bronx, NY to Max and Sofie Muechnik. He served in the US Army during WWII, and then graduated from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque majoring in Government. He began his career in 1957 with the US Government serving in the United States as well as in Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries. After retirement from the US State Department, he joined the United Nations and focused on International development cooperation, particularly in Africa. After retirement from the United Nations, he combined short-term professional responsibilities with care and support to his family. He is preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Beck, and brother, Richard Maynard. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Maxine Olson Maynard, and children, Max, Sydney, Julia and Elizabeth, and host of loving relatives, friends, and strangers. Leonard will always be remembered for his strong love of his family, capacity for caring, engagement with those around him, sharp intellect, brilliant wit, and fantastic sense of humor. A Funeral Service will be held today at 1:30 PM at Temple Beth El of Northern Westchester 229 Bedford Road, Chappaqua. Interment will follow at Sharon Gardens Cemetery, Valhalla, NY. |
