Anne Burns Horgan

Obituary: Anne Burns Horgan died on June 25th while visiting her daughter and family in Elizabeth, CO. Anne was born on January 3, 1917 to Cornelia Murphy and Frederick L. Burns in Rome. NY. She came to New Rochelle to attend the College of New Rochelle graduating in 1940 where she met her beloved Charles. They married on October 17, 1942.  She is survived by Charles (Barbara), Terrence (Candy), Greg (Patricia), Kathleen Keaney, Stephen (Patricia), Anne Joyce Moses, Frederick (Barbaramary), Michael,  Sheila Titus (John), Joseph (Diane), Paula Makovsky,  Meg Johnston (Bill), 28 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Sr. Gregory Horgan, OSU and many nieces and nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Charles, her son Tony, a brother Jack Burns and sister Mary Margaret Thompson. In 1958 she was honored by the City of New Rochelle as Mother of the Year.  Anne was the recipient of an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humanities from the College of the Holy Cross (1979) and received the College of New Rochelle’s Angela Merici Medal (1965).   She was active in the Girl Scouts of America, League of Women Voters, the Alumnae Association of CNR, the Christian Family Movement, Church Women United and the Catholic Worker. She was much admired, much loved and is much missed by all of us. The family will receive friends for Memorial Visitation at McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home in White Plains on Thursday from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 PM. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows R.C. Church on Friday at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
