Obituary:
Dr. Walter E. Manzi , 92, of Armonk, New York passed away on April 12.
He had been a dentist with a community practice in Crestwood, New York as well as a practice in New York City where he also was a professor at the College of Dentistry of New York University for many years. He was a recognized innovator in the field of prosthetics and oral reconstruction. He was the inventor of several dental instruments which he manufactured and sold through a company he created and through other instrument manufacturers. For the unique design of these instruments, he was awarded a US patent in 1975. These instruments have been used by thousands of dentists worldwide.
Dr. Manzi graduated from New York University and then the NYU College of Dentistry. He began his dental career in the United States Navy in 1942 and served in the Pacific aboard the USS Aurelia from 1943 to 1945.
He also had artistic talents, painting and sculpting for many years. He was also an avid golfer at the Whippoorwill Club in Armonk for more than 40 years.
Dr. Manzi, was born in 1918 in the Bronx, NY, the youngest of seven children of Anthony and Lucia (Laucello) Manzi.
His wife of 66 years, Ann, and his four children survives him: Karen of Mount Kisco, John of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Joseph of Tuckahoe, and Jim of Boston, Massachusetts. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Julianna of Washington D.C., Jay of San Francisco, California and Jack of Brookline, Ma. Also surviving is his daughter-in-law, Glenda Baugh Manzi of Brookline, Ma.
Visitation will be Wednesday (Today) from 2-6 at Beecher Funeral Home, Inc., Pleasantville where his funeral service will be held Thursday at 10am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
