| Obituary:
Jim McGinty, 72, of Pleasantville (formally of Yonkers,) passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 7th 2010 after a 3 year battle with multiple systems atrophy. Jim was born to the late Gerard and Eleanor McGinty in Brooklyn NY. Jim dedicated thirty years of service to his country in the US Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Colonel. Jim was retired from the North Rockland School District where he taught as a special education teacher for 30 years. He was a member and past division and county president of A.O.H. Division 1. Jim was former chairman of Michael Coleman Branch of CCE and Mid Atlantic Regional chairman. He was past president and board member of the American Irish Association of Westchester. He was host and director of the AIA’s Irish music radio program on WVOX for 24 years. Jim was a respected high school football, basketball, and softball official and coached girls’ basketball and softball. Jim is survived by his beloved wife Barbara, his daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and Alexander Gizzo, and grandchildren Cassandra, Miranda, and Gabriella of North Salem. He is also survived by his sisters Jane Prendergast of Claremont, CA and Patricia Glennon of Dover, NJ and 3 nieces and 1 nephew. He was predeceased by his brother Jack McGinty of Houston, TX.
Visitation will be Thursday 7-9pm and Friday 2-4 & 7-9pm at Beecher Funeral Home, Inc., Pleasantville. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday 10am at Holy Innocents Church, Pleasantville. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne |
