Pia Franziska Wagenblast

Obituary: Pia Franziska Wagenblast was born to Maria Schaefer and Heinrich-Josef Wagenblast in Herbolzheim, Germany on October 20, 1918 as the youngest of 8 children.  She was married to Leo McCartney on June 7, 1947 in Middle Village, Queens.  They were long-time residents of Pelham and Pleasantville.   On Wednesday, January 27th, she joined her husband Leo, brothers and sisters as well as dear friends resting in peace with the Lord.  As an active parishioner of Holy Innocents Church, she found great comfort in her faith.Surviving are Dennis and Liette (Berg) McCartney of Casteau, Belgium and Edward McCartney of Montrose, New York as well as Ellen (McCartney) and George Duck of Paso Robles, California.  As a loving grandmother, she embraced Michelle (McCartney) and David Whetzel, Laurie (McCartney) and Alex Wehmeyer and Denise McCartney.  She was a joyful great grandmother to Justin McCartney, Molly Whetzel, Hugo Wehmeyer, Amira Royer and Nils Wehmeyer. Pia had an extended family through the delicatessen business from customers to employees to vendors. As co-proprietor of Leos Delis in; Pelham, New Rochelle, Pleasantville, Briarcliff and Cortlandt.  Pia and Leo have left behind a legacy of homemade salads, soups, meats, custard as well as rice and bread puddings.  As a family-run business, it gave them true pleasure to be a part of these communities. They gratefully served their customers. The mention of Leo’s Deli still brings in smiles to this day! From the heart, Dennis shares that … Mom never took the easy road, but, she took the road that benefited those who needed her most. Our gratitude, love and blessings to a very special Mom, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Great Aunt and Friend from all in the U.S., Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg. The family will receive friends at the Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville on Sunday, February 7th from 4 – 6 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday February 8th at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
