Obituary: Margaret Slaughter Wooters of Saranac Inn, N.Y., died peacefully on January 29th at The Village of Waveny Care Center, New Canaan Ct. Margaret was born in Washington, D.C. on June 25,1923,to Laurence A. and Dorothy M. Slaughter. She was predeceased by her brother, Harrington Mills Slaughter. She graduated from Georgetown Visitation, Washington, D.C. in 1940 and from Manhattanville College, Purchase, N.Y. in 1944. Margaret's father Laurence and her grandfather Harrington Mills owned and operated the Saranac Inn in Upper Saranac Lake, N.Y. for 30 years. She married Charles Reynolds Wooters at the Church of the Ascension in Saranac Inn, N.Y. and they were married for 52 years until his death in 1996. Mrs.Wooters resided in Larchmont N.Y. for 50 years where she and Charles raised their 8 children and later became a full time resident of Saranac Inn, N.Y. She was a devoted parishioner of the Church of St. Augustine, Larchmont, N.Y. and St. John of the Wilderness in Lake Clear, N.Y. Mrs. Wooters had been a 40 year member of the Larchmont Yacht Club, N.Y. and had served as a Board of Director of Hotel Harrington Company, Washington, D.C. which was founded by her grandfather Harrington Mills. She also had been an active volunteer for High Peaks Hospice in Saranac Lake, N.Y. Mrs. Wooters was the beloved mother of Dorothy Ann Schneider of Pensacola, Fla.; Margaret Patricia Pedersen,(Brian Pedersen, deceased) of Euclid, Ohio; Mary Susan Campbell (William Campbell) of Annapolis, Md.; Charles Reynolds Wooters (Sheila McCarthy Wooters) of Silver Spring, Md.; John Dukes Wooters (Marybeth Moran Wooters) of Morristown, N.J.; Laurence Slaughter Wooters (Catherine Joyce Wooters) of New Canaan, Ct.; Lucy Irene McCarthy (John McCarthy) of Vienna, Va. and William Harrington Wooters (Elizabeth Schaefer) of White Plains, N.Y. She was the loving Grandmother of 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Faith, family, friends, tennis and Saranac Inn were Margaret's passions.
The family will receive friends at the Church of St. Augustine in Larchmont, N.Y. at 10:30a.m., Friday, February 3rd.The wake will be immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon. Interment will be private. The family requests that no flowers be sent.
