| Obituary:
Catherine C. Lowery, 85, of Sleepy Hollow, NY, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2009. She was born on July 7, 1924 in Ossining, NY, to Gerald and Cletus Curtin. She was pre-deceased by her husband Edward D. Lowery and is survived by her brother Gerald F. Curtin of Worton, MD and her children Patrick (Christine) Lowery, Michael (Amanda) Lowery, Christine (William) Bassett and Catherine (Thomas) Dickmann. She is also survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Katie attended Ossining schools and was valedictorian of her high school class before receiving a BA in English from the College of Mt. St. Vincent and an MA from Western Connecticut State University. A former resident of Yorktown, she taught in the Yorktown school district for more than 25 years. She was also president of the League of Women Voters, the first Yorktown Town Historian and a charter member of the friends and volunteers who started the town’s museum. After moving to Mt. Kisco, she remained active in community affairs as she delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered for numerous organizations including the literacy program through the Mt. Kisco Library, the Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Master Gardner Program, the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens field station at Kitchawan and Friends of Lasdon Park and Arboretum. A memorial mass celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 11 at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church in Ossining, NY. Private interment. |
