Obituary: Stephen Ackley Towl, 61, passed away quite unexpectedly on Sunday, November 16, 2009 in Millwood, NY where he was a resident for 36 years.  He was born on January 19, 1948 in Rockville Center, NY to the late Mary Edythe Johnston and Allan Theodore Towl II.  He was married to his high school sweetheart, Margaret Elizabeth (Betsy) Myers on April 10, 1971 in Slate Hill, NY.

After graduating from Oakwood School in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1967, Steve received his BS degree in Marketing and Business Administration from Pace University in Pleasantville, NY in 1971.  His business career spanned 38 years in the packaging industry in the design, sales and procurement areas.  He was employed by the Danish firm, Superfos Packaging of Cumberland, Md.  During his career he was also employed by Kraft Foods, Imco Container Corp, Avon, Colgate Palmolive, Benckiser and Dannon Co.

He is survived by his beloved daughters Katherine Mary Towl of New York City, and Elizabeth Crane Towl Hanig of Darien, CT, her husband Paul Michael Hanig and a very special grandson, Gavin Michael Hanig.  He is also survived by his brother, Allan Theodore Towl III, his nephew Brandon Nicholas Towl and his grandnephew, Hayden B. Towl.

Steve’s community activities included coaching his daughters on various softball and soccer teams.  He was also past president of Birchwood Swim and Tennis and a frequent behind the scenes supporter of the New Castle Historical Society.  He had an especially infectious sense of humor.  Steve always enjoyed a project and was frequently seen with tools in hand assisting family and friends.

He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

Visitation Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Beecher Funeral Home, Inc., Pleasantville, NY
Funeral service Thursday 11 AM, First Congregational Church of Chappaqua, Chappaqua, NY.  Interment Private.
