Judith Torrisi Wintermuth

 

Obituary: Judith Torrisi Wintermuth was born on May 19th, 1947 in Elizabeth, NJ to Evelyn and John Torrisi. She lived most of her life in Westchester County, graduating from Scarsdale High School in 1964. She went on to earn her BA in Mathematics from William Smith College in 1969, and worked briefly in the early computer industry.

Judy met her husband of 37 years, George Wintermuth, through the White Plains Ski Club. they were married on October 14th 1972 and lived briefly in New Rochelle before moving to Chappaqua, NY. Together, they raised three children - Patricia, Andrew, and Erica - all of whom currently reside in New York. Over the years, Judy was extremely active in many charities and volunteer activities, and held leadership positions in the PTA and the Junior League of Westchester. From coordinating Family Fun Days to co chairing craft fairs for the Chappaqua School system, Judy was an active member of the community for many years.

Judy returned to school in 1986 to earn her Masters in teaching, after which she became a full time mathematics teacher for thirteen years, many of which were at Rye Country Day School. She continued her volunteer activities, including community outreach which her parish, Sts, John and Mary in Chappaqua. After retiring from teaching judy turned her attention to two passions, singing and gardening, and became active in her church choir and local garden club.

Among her many joys in life were spending time with her family, and striving to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Judy applied boundless energy and good spirit to everything she did, and strove to make the world a better and brighter place for those around her.

A loving wife, mother and friend, Judy's compassionate heart and zest for living will continue to be felt by those she loved for many years to come.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made in Judy's name to the American Cancer Society, The American Kidney Fund or Remote Area Medical Foundation. Visitation will be Friday 2-4 & 7-9pm at Beecher Funeral Home, Inc., Pleasantville.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10am at St. John & St. Mary's Church, Chappaqua.
