Obituary: Neil C. Craig, 83, of Mt. Kisco and long-time resident of Chappaqua, died Monday, July 20, 2009, following a long illness. He was born in New York City on January 2, 1926 to Helen and Ross Craig. While growing up in Scarsdale, he became an Eagle Scout and graduated from Scarsdale High School. After graduation, he served two years in the Army Air Forces as a gunner on a B-29. Upon leaving the service, he worked at Russell Brothers Towing and in September 1946, married Barbara Russell.
Neil attended Pace College at nights gaining a certificate in accounting and business law. In 1961, he went to Wall Street where he was a customer representative for 15 years. In 1975, he and his wife bought Taylor Travel Service in Chappaqua that they ran until 1985. 1n 1986, he was made an honorary member of the Princeton University Class of 1948.
Neil was an active parishioner for 57 years at the Church of Sts. John and Mary. He was a member of Mount Kisco Country Club for 58 years and served as a Board member and two-term President during that time.
Neil is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, his 4 children, Susan, Chris, Tim and Robin, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Norman of Ridgefield, CT, and his sister Joan Hadden of Newtown Square, PA.
Visiting hours will be held at the Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville, NY on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, from 4-7 pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of Sts. John and Mary (upper church) on Thursday, July 23 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northern Westchester Hospital Foundation, Mt. Kisco, NY. |
