| Obituary:
Sister Mary Christopher Sheridan, OP (Mabel A. Sheridan) died on July 26, 2009 at 7:40am at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, NY after an extended illness.
She was born December 21, 1935 in New York City, the eleventh of twelve children of Thomas and Marie (Galligan) Sheridan.
Sister entered the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne in 1955, after completing her freshman year at Manhattanville College.
Sister made her Profession of Vows, on September 14, 1957
She graduated from St. Clare’s Hospital as a Registered Nurse. She also received her Bachelor of Science Professional Arts in 1991 from St. Joseph’s College in Windham, ME and completed the required courses for an Administration License at St. Scholastica’s College in Duluth, MN in 1997.
Sister served as Director of Nursing at six of the Homes operated by the Hawthorne Dominicans. Sister also served as Administrator in three of our Homes.
Sister served the Community as Superior of Rose Hawthorne Lathrop Home from 1974 to 1980 and as Superior in Holy Family Home from 2000 to 2004. She served on the General Council from 1977-1981 and again as in 1997-2001.
Sister enjoyed writing poetry and had a book of her poems published. She had also done extensive work on the Community’s constitutions in the 1970’s.
Her sister Elizabeth and two brothers, Kevin and James survive. Many devoted nieces and nephews survive sister.
A wake will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Rosary Hill Home from 3:30pm to 9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday July 29, 2009 in the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary at Rosary Hill Home. |
